About the Foundation

The Foundation honors John Andrew Mazie, who was killed by a drunken driver on June 19, 1997 at age 26. John was an extraordinary individual, who was particularly concerned with the plight of youths who want to focus on education and career but, for reasons beyond their control, face steep odds against success.

To carry on John's legacy, the Foundation recruits volunteers from area companies to act as Mentors to high school students recommended for the program by their school counselors. The Mentors help, encourage and motivate their Mentees to dream of what they want in life and commit to do the things that will make their dreams a reality. They expose the students to the business world, broaden their cultural exposure and act as success role models for them. The Mentors support their Mentees' efforts to establish and achieve goals designed to maximize their learning experience, improve their community environment, strengthen their family ties and explore career path options.

The Foundation provides goal achievement awards and scholarships upon graduation from high school.
